That Was Then, This Is Now By S.E. Hinton

That Was Then, This Is Now
By S.E. Hinton

Significance:
i think this work is important because its based on things that actually happened and people should acknowledge that there are people in these situations and that its not cool. There are so many situations like this that used to happen all the time and still do , its important that people realize this. Reasons that someone should to chose to read this is because its well written and it contains interesting material that's usually not expressed by most people, also it cares an interesting and realistic story.

Perspective:
This book was written by S.E. Hinton who grew up in a town were things like this happened regularly, and seeing the cruelty of it she decided to express it in her writing. this book was written between the late 60'S and early 70's , and takes perspective of the gang violence on the street along with the drugs and freedom of the hippies. the author is obviously against the issues she expresses in her work(gang violence , drug dealing ,etc...)

Evidence:
i don't necessarily think the author is trying to make a argument or point as i have mentioned in previous reviews and surely many more to come, so this in my mind excuses all needing of evidence, a story doesn't have to be a argument (unless its a political book) so i think that the idea of having a a section were we need to supply evidence for an argument that we freely assume is there is in my view not of the point.

Connection:
well this story is based on events that happened in neighborhood that the author lived in and it still dose happen in parts of the world. this work doesn't really apply to my life because i don't live in a place were some dude in my house is dealing drugs and I'm also 13 seriously i mean I'm in middle school i shouldn't be out shooting stuff. but i wouldn't say that the event still effects us today mainly because e it wasn't like a historical crime its just "some kid got caught deal ling drugs" its not like effecting us mainly because its fiction and never really happened, though lots of things like it have happened.

Supposition:
lets say if you took out the kid calling the cops on his friend, then well i bet every thing would of been cool and turned out fine, but that didn't happen, but lets say you made these kids uppercase rich kids than even if the one kid was arrested than he wouldn't of gone to prison. i would not of changed this piece at all because the story is really well done and it has a satisfying ending.

flight-sherman alexie

significance
its not an important book, its fictional story in current events and in my view its not trying to say any message besides don't charge into a bank and start shooting people. there are aloft of events that happen in it because the person travels through different body's and sees certain events that revolve around his point of view (being Indian).and the book isn't relivent really to anyone besides; Indians , suicide bombers, drunks, detectives from the 1930's the 1800's cavalry, police officers.

perspective
this book was created by Sherman Alexei an Indian author. it takes view from Indian culture modern and the one's with the horses and the tomahawks from 1800. it was written i n 2007 and takes place in modern times. the author takes perspective on both sides in the flash backs he(the main character) has

evidence

i don't think the author trying to make a argument its just a story theres no real point of view i walked away with besides don't shoot up banks. also i guess he trying to show the cruelty of the world. and its just a good book so i would read it . books don't need to have a point or an argument. neither dose a story and there doesn't have to be an argument about every thing.it s not like theres a real point like theres something you "take away" from the situation.

connection

the only connection or reference to history is when he will jump into a body thats like from the 1800's calvary or and old Indian. seeing the good and bad thing that both sides did. and things that relate to his point of view. in the book he doesn't do any thing that effects the events that are still happening theres some reference to it. the book doesn't apply to my life in any way i can currently think of . this book will effect what i read in the future, by seeing that i like his type of writing and ill probably read more of his work in the future.

supposition

if i were in the situation that the character in this book was in i would totally freak out because he like gos through different body's and sees some totally crazy things, and hes like only 15, plus his life so far has been totally messed up so it would be like totally crazy for me. again its this argument and historical thing, its a fantasy book this never happened the world would not be changed at all. and again its this argument thing im not making an argument of it, nor in my opinion is any one else.
