The Joy Luck Club By Amy Tan

The Joy Luck Club By Amy Tan

Significance:
i think this book is mabey one of the best iv ever read if not the best. this book is a very moving story, that revolves around a group of 4 Chinese women and there daughters. each chapter is either from the perspective of the mothers or the daughters and it really demonstrates the character within each of these beings. it also demonstrates how you should never give up and to always believe that there is a way. or at least that's what i took away from it.

Perspective:
this book was written by a Chinese American author, honestly i don't know much about her other than that. this book takes place in all sorts of different time periods and areas of the world but mainly in 1970's San Francisco and 1940's china. so there are allot of different ways of thinking amounts the different characters. and since in the period of this in china the Japanese were invading which put quite a strain on the emotions and made some of the situations allot worse.

Evidence:
i don't believe that the author is trying to make an argument, but a story of the difference between china and San Francisco which are two of the most different places on the earth and its also about these older women who were raised in china and bore all these hardships coming to America and raising children in San Francisco. and i guess if you must need evidence for a fictional story it was very hard to have a life in china in the 1900's and its based off of type of things which are facts known facts.

Connection:
as i said before this takes place mainly in 1930-40's china and 1970's San Francisco. in china during the 1940's the Japanese were invading china and this as a result pretty much starts the story and ends it at the same time. but it was also a hard time two grow up in because of the lack of freedom and the closed mindedness(if that's even a word). it really displays who its a hard place to be, compared to San Francisco. And even in the U.S.A. how there are many injustices.

Supposition:
lets Say that they were trying to come to the USA like in 2008, well that would kinda suck for them unless they had green cards or something because we got coast guard and all sorts of thing y0u show to prove you are a citizen, but even if they did have the stuff it would probably be the same overall i mean mabey they could communicate to each other better becuase of modern day technology but its honestly still pretty much the same , the daughters would mabey be a litle different but the mothers still are from china were its all about working extremely hard because they got like tradition and other stuff.

The Outsiders By S.E. Hinton

The Outsiders
By S.E. Hinton

Significance:
i choose this book because i have read allot of books by S.E. Hinton and i thought that they were really well written and had good content. But it dose fol ow the same situation and genre as her other books but out of all of them this one stands out the most. it has a powerful story that is exceptionally well written and has more character connection and setting, also revolving around the cruelty and unfairness of the world but also at the good things but mainly around how some people get sucked into bad situations.

Perspective:
this work was created by some one who grew up in this time period and in a town where things like this happened [on a smaller scale] and she always enjoyed literature so she decided to write books on the problems around her. the book takes place in the 1970's in a place where some bad stuff happened like kids beating each other up and occasionally stabbing each other. she clearly is against the whole idea of poor people and crime, she mainly just has the same themes as the other books except i think that this book is more powerfully written and has more content.

Evidence:
the author as usual isn't trying to make an argument rather a statement, and that is the usual but as i said before the theme is the same she just improved the story to make it more entertaining. the author doesn't really need all this evidence to support her view its proven there is crime in places and violence its obvious [and if you don't belive me get in your cars and drive around east LA at like 1:00 am] so she doesn't really need all this so called "evidence" .

Connection:
this book takes place in the 70's and is a FICTIONAL story ergo the specific event in this story is not effecting us, but issues like crime and violence are and that is still a problem. you could read this book and based on the content you could decide no to go rob a store[or you could use common since]

Supposition:
see the crazy thing about this story is if you turned it around say the rich kids killed a poor kid instead of vice versa, then the entire situation would have changed because no one would really care that some poor kid was found dead rather than a rich kid was found murdered. see they'd probably say murdered instead of dead to make people sad then show abunch of picturesof the kid to get people angry [not saying this happened in the book] but if a poor kid died its one small article.

Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton

Rumble Fish
By S.E. Hinton

Significance:
I think that this work is impotent because it tells a story that's based on true events, as most of her books are, but i think this book is an amazing book and it is realistic and its true that thing like this happen in parts of the USA and that we should also acknowledge people in these situations to. i think its really impotent of what the author is trying to say because lots of kids think that there being cool by joining a gang and stuff but its actually really dangerous and has devastating effect and never has a good outcome.

Perspective:
This book was written by a author who grew up in a place and place like the ones she writes about and was exposed to a lot of violence. so its pretty obvious that she knows what shes talking about, also because she depicts it great. this book was written in like 1975 and it talks about the styles that were around and also about events that took place. so its pretty obvious that its against crime and drugs and other thing in that type of genre, and over the course of the book she makes it pretty clear what she,s trying to say.

Evidence:
the author grew up in a neighborhood were this type of thing happened all the time and I'm pretty sure that she right because before i moved i lived in a crappy part of San Diego, and it wasn't that Good there trust me, and that might be one of the reasons that i really like her books and the subject that he talks about. also she bases some of the events she has on some things that happen commonly.

Connection:

this book is a book of fiction so there is no real event that happened after it but things
like this effect the world in a negative way because it increases crime and poverty and makes peoples lives bad and that's not a good thing and these people in these situations are no different that us and we should acknowledge that this happens none the less.

Supposition:
i think that if you applyed this to a situation to a more rich neighborhood that you wouldn't have the same problems because kids wouldn't be poor and not steal and stuff also the police wouldn't be cruel and abusive to the kids (enough to shoot them) and then i think that it wouldn't of been such a crazy thing that happened and police officers wouldn't be unnecessarily harassing them, also i don't think they would have shot a RICH kid who was steal ling from a store and running from the cops.

That Was Then, This Is Now By S.E. Hinton

That Was Then, This Is Now
By S.E. Hinton

Significance:
i think this work is important because its based on things that actually happened and people should acknowledge that there are people in these situations and that its not cool. There are so many situations like this that used to happen all the time and still do , its important that people realize this. Reasons that someone should to chose to read this is because its well written and it contains interesting material that's usually not expressed by most people, also it cares an interesting and realistic story.

Perspective:
This book was written by S.E. Hinton who grew up in a town were things like this happened regularly, and seeing the cruelty of it she decided to express it in her writing. this book was written between the late 60'S and early 70's , and takes perspective of the gang violence on the street along with the drugs and freedom of the hippies. the author is obviously against the issues she expresses in her work(gang violence , drug dealing ,etc...)

Evidence:
i don't necessarily think the author is trying to make a argument or point as i have mentioned in previous reviews and surely many more to come, so this in my mind excuses all needing of evidence, a story doesn't have to be a argument (unless its a political book) so i think that the idea of having a a section were we need to supply evidence for an argument that we freely assume is there is in my view not of the point.

Connection:
well this story is based on events that happened in neighborhood that the author lived in and it still dose happen in parts of the world. this work doesn't really apply to my life because i don't live in a place were some dude in my house is dealing drugs and I'm also 13 seriously i mean I'm in middle school i shouldn't be out shooting stuff. but i wouldn't say that the event still effects us today mainly because e it wasn't like a historical crime its just "some kid got caught deal ling drugs" its not like effecting us mainly because its fiction and never really happened, though lots of things like it have happened.

Supposition:
lets say if you took out the kid calling the cops on his friend, then well i bet every thing would of been cool and turned out fine, but that didn't happen, but lets say you made these kids uppercase rich kids than even if the one kid was arrested than he wouldn't of gone to prison. i would not of changed this piece at all because the story is really well done and it has a satisfying ending.

flight-sherman alexie

significance
its not an important book, its fictional story in current events and in my view its not trying to say any message besides don't charge into a bank and start shooting people. there are aloft of events that happen in it because the person travels through different body's and sees certain events that revolve around his point of view (being Indian).and the book isn't relivent really to anyone besides; Indians , suicide bombers, drunks, detectives from the 1930's the 1800's cavalry, police officers.

perspective
this book was created by Sherman Alexei an Indian author. it takes view from Indian culture modern and the one's with the horses and the tomahawks from 1800. it was written i n 2007 and takes place in modern times. the author takes perspective on both sides in the flash backs he(the main character) has

evidence

i don't think the author trying to make a argument its just a story theres no real point of view i walked away with besides don't shoot up banks. also i guess he trying to show the cruelty of the world. and its just a good book so i would read it . books don't need to have a point or an argument. neither dose a story and there doesn't have to be an argument about every thing.it s not like theres a real point like theres something you "take away" from the situation.

connection

the only connection or reference to history is when he will jump into a body thats like from the 1800's calvary or and old Indian. seeing the good and bad thing that both sides did. and things that relate to his point of view. in the book he doesn't do any thing that effects the events that are still happening theres some reference to it. the book doesn't apply to my life in any way i can currently think of . this book will effect what i read in the future, by seeing that i like his type of writing and ill probably read more of his work in the future.

supposition

if i were in the situation that the character in this book was in i would totally freak out because he like gos through different body's and sees some totally crazy things, and hes like only 15, plus his life so far has been totally messed up so it would be like totally crazy for me. again its this argument and historical thing, its a fantasy book this never happened the world would not be changed at all. and again its this argument thing im not making an argument of it, nor in my opinion is any one else.
